Besides having the tallest state capitol in the U.S. which soars 450 foot tall and has 34 floors, Louisiana is unique from the other 49 states in many other ways.

Louisiana is the only state that is divided into parishes rather than counties.

Louisiana is the original state to celebrate Mardi Gras, which involves unique King Cakes and Mardi Gras Parades.

Louisiana is known for having crawfish boils, as it is the "Crawfish Capitol of the World". While crawfish (also known as crayfish) are the main ingredient in a crawfish boil, Louisianans toss in other ingredients like, corn, mushrooms, garlic, onions, potatoes, and sometimes even hot dogs. Crawfish boils often take place around Easter.

With such breathtaking scenery, Louisiana is a great place for all of those who like the outdoors. Fishermen can enjoy the great salt water fishing in the Gulf or Lake Pontchartrain after a short drive, as well as the fresh water lakes and ponds like False River that are almost anywhere. Hunters have lots of game including deer and duck. Campers and nature-lovers can go to the many state parks.

Diversity is also a great characteristic of Louisiana.

Friendliness and the name Louisiana could be synonyms. In Louisiana it is common for complete strangers to greet one another or hold the door open for one another. There is a common bond that Louisianans have towards others.

The weather is usually very sunny and humid and never really gets too cold. It snowed in 2008 for the first time since the 80's and again two times more in 2009. So for those who like to play sports outside the weather is great for such activities year-round. While there is a rainy season that comes for several weeks or so each year, the weather is pretty consistent, with a winter that generally doesn't get too cold.

The food is like no other. Crawfish etouffe, seafood gumbo, fried catfish, raw oysters and jambalaya are a few favorites. There isn't anything bland in Louisiana.

Louisianans are known to have an accent. Louisianans frequently use the word "y'all" to refer to a group of people (short for "You all."). Cajun French is a special language in some parts of Louisiana, as well, but mostly uncommon.

Louisiana is a great place to live, and the Baton Rouge economy is thriving despite the nations downturn. Baton Rouge has proved to be a strong city and shows signs of even further growth in the future.

Kip Holden the mayor of Baton Rouge has been proactive in meeting with many Chinese companies to encourage them to bring their businesses to Baton Rouge. Several have already committed to doing so.

Downtown Baton Rouge is becoming larger and larger. LSU is also growing at a rapid pace. Holding top rankings in LSU football, LSU baseball, as well as its academic programs LSU and the real estate around it is continuing to be in high demand. Developments between LSU and downtown Baton Rouge are on the verge of commencement, and Engle Realty is proud to be a part of the growing process.
